How to play
Tank 2026
Controls
| Keyboard | Arrow keys or W A S D drive (hold) · Space or J fires (hold to keep firing) · P or Esc pauses · Enter plays / plays again |
|---|---|
| Touch screen | The arrow pad under the field on the left drives (hold to drive, slide your thumb to the next arrow to turn, tap for a half-tile step) · the Fire button on the right, hold to keep firing · with the phone on its side the arrows sit left of the field and Fire on the right |
Let go and the tank rolls on to the next half-tile line and stops there; when it turns it lines itself up, so narrow lanes are easy to enter. Against the corner of a wall with an opening at most half a tile to the side, it slips into the opening.
Rules
- The battlefield is 13 × 13 tiles. The command post (the flagged bunker) sits at the bottom centre inside a brick wall one tile thick. One enemy shell on it ends the run, however many tanks you have left.
- Your own shells never harm the command post or its wall, so a stray shot costs nothing.
- You have 3 tanks. An enemy shell costs one (and the gun upgrades with it); the next tank rolls in at the start point with a 3-second shield. No tanks left = the run is over.
- Enemies show up at the top as a sparkle first, then roll in; at most 4 are on the field at once (up to 6 in later survival waves).
- Your shell and an enemy shell meeting in flight wipe each other out - shoot down a shell coming at you.
- A run lasts at most 20 minutes and then counts as it stands · you can also end it yourself with "End run", and it counts the same way.
The ground
- Brick: stops tanks and shells. One shell breaks half a tile (as wide as a tank); two get through a whole tile.
- Steel: normal shells bounce off; it takes a gun upgraded three times to shoot through.
- Water: tanks cannot cross it, shells fly over it.
- Bushes: tanks drive under them and are hidden there.
Enemies
| Rookie (grey-green) | slow, slow shells · 100 points |
|---|---|
| Racer (teal) | faster than your tank · 200 points |
| Gunner (purple, twin barrels) | fires often, two shells at a time · 300 points |
| Heavy (blue) | takes 4 hits and fades paler with each · 500 points |
Tanks that flash red (the 4th, 11th and 18th of every stage) drop a power-up somewhere on the field when hit. It stays about 15 seconds; drive over it to take it.
Power-ups (500 points each)
- Gun upgrade (three chevrons): step 1 faster shells, step 2 two shells at a time, step 3 shells through steel
- Energy shield: stops every shell for 10 seconds
- Freeze (snowflake): every enemy stands still and holds fire for 10 seconds
- Steel fort: the wall around the command post turns to steel for 20 seconds, then back to a whole brick wall
- Air strike: destroys every enemy tank on the field, with full points
- Extra tank: one more tank
Modes
- Classic: 20 tanks a stage; destroy them all to clear it for a 1,000-point bonus. Eight battlefields (Training Ground, Riverside, Old Town, Steel Yard, Jungle, Fortress, Canals, Last Stand). Later stages bring more heavies and gunners, faster arrivals, quicker shots and more enemies heading for the command post; after stage 8 the battlefields come round again with the toughest enemies.
- Survival: one arena, endless enemies. Every 10 tanks you destroy start a new wave for a 500-point bonus, each wave faster and tougher than the last.
Scoring
- Rookie 100 · Racer 200 · Gunner 300 · Heavy 500
- A power-up 500 · a cleared stage 1,000 · a new wave 500
- One more tank every 10,000 points (up to 9)
- The leaderboard is ranked by score, the earlier run first on a tie; runs with 0 points are not ranked
Leaderboard
After a run, enter a name (2-20 characters) and a country: the score goes on the world and country leaderboards, showing each name's best. The server replays the inputs of every run before it counts; a score that does not replay the same is not listed.
Tips
- Do not chase enemies so far that you leave the base alone: the ones closing in on the command post come first.
- An enemy facing you in line fires almost at once - step out of its line, or fire back so the shells meet.
- Break walls half a tile at a time to open a firing lane, but keep some wall for cover.
- Collect three gun upgrades, then be careful: losing a tank resets the gun.
